Or … An opportunity you never see coming may turn out in ways you never foresee.
Years ago, I had decided I needed to try to invest more time in my daughter’s activities. My son was off to college, and his friends and activities, and living miles away. But she was often stopping by, even to say the night from time to time. And I’d paid much too time to work as my kids grew up.
One of her interests was the theater. I had no involvement in any theater at all, other than playing Joseph in a production in 3rd grade at church. But here I was, maybe 40 years later, in a different church, trying to see how I could help her out. She was in a stage production, the name of which I can’t recall now, and learning how to be involved in such productions.
I had no idea how I could help. That was no problem. They needed someone to read with actors who were rehearsing their parts. I could do that. It was only once a week, either Saturday or Sunday afternoons, it’s been so long I can’t remember that, either.
Do you see where this goes? Next they needed some guy to be a butler, who said something as involved as “Thank-you sir.” And then in the next production a little more and then a little more, and eventually it got to playing Scrooge in Christmas Carol!
Why am I telling you this? I got out of the productions maybe 15 years ago. Kids and grand-kids and work and life took center stage and hogged the spotlight.
It was a grand time while it lasted, a time I never expected that day I volunteered to help my daughter.
So that’s something you might keep in mind, maybe even look for. You never know what could happen when you go to help someone you love, all the things that might suddenly enter from stage left and right.
Keep going. Keep looking. Keep hoping.
You can do it.
God’s blessings on you and your family.
